Home from gardening classes yesterday, a bucketful of perfect water lilies sat gleaming on the kitchen bench, waiting for me to put them into a vase. The boys (all of them!) had been out on the lake in the afternoon to pluck them. Such a lovely gift ... but I am glad I wasn't home to see the little one out in the canoe for the first time!
